38 Full Sun Ground Covers for Zone 4 (Best Choices)

There’s no shortage of full-sun ground covers for zone 4 climates! Each plant in this list can withstand the frigid temperatures and also enjoy the hot sun in summer.

Full sun means that a plant is in a position that receives 6-8 hours or more of direct sun. Most plants, particularly ones that love to flower and fruit, will require this at a minimum to thrive! Many of these options will also grow well in partial shade (4-6 hours of direct sunlight).

Since you’re in zone 4, you can also grow any of the sun-loving ground covers from zone 3!

For more ground cover choices, see: 34 Full Sun Ground Covers for Zone 3 (Best Choices)

Ready to plant a unique yard? My intention with this list is to bring you plant choices beyond the popular picks. As we expand the types of plants we grow, we encourage more local diversity.
